Who is buried in the tomb of unknown soldier????

It’s Armistice Day, November 11th, in thenation's capital. It is a brisk day at Arlington National Cemetery. Dignitaries stand silently on the third anniversaryof the ending of World War I, watching as a single white casket is lowered into a marbledtomb. In attendance is President Calvin Coolidge, former President Woodrow Wilson, Supreme Court Justice (as well as former President) WilliamHoward Taft, Chief Plenty Coups, and hundreds of dedicated United States servicemen. As the casket settles on its final restingplace in the tomb, upon a thin layer of French soil, three salvos are fired.  A bugler plays taps and, with the final note, comes a 21 gun salute. The smoke clears and eyes dry as the UnknownSoldier from World War I is laid to rest; the first unknown soldier to be officiallyhonored in this manner in American history. The United States’ allies in World War I,France and Britain, were the first countries to practice the concept of burying an “unknownsoldier.” World W...

A tour of Janifer Davenport

Hello I'm Jennifer Davenport and in this video I'm gonna give you a store tour and see some of the new things that havecome in for the summer. So stay tuned. One of the first things I want to show you is one of my favorite tables. I really like things mixed in the room. This one is very industrial and super cool. I love round tables and especiallyI love to place them if I'm gonna have two chairs in a room. I like a roundtable in between them because that really helps to nestle everythingtogether and again I'm probably gonna decorate in threes. If I have a lamp thenI'm probably going to have a greenery and then some type of little figurine.I love lighting.
I think it's a work of art whether it's a lamp or whether it'sa chandelier. This one just came in. This one's not online so don't give me a hardtime but this one is beautiful with the wood beads, a white tone. I really can'tthink of a room that this would not look good in. One of the new things we got inwas this really cool coffee table. It slides down and closes, lifts back up. Soyou can also use it as a table to eat when you watch TV. This is a floralarrangement that is probably one of my favorites because I've loved cherryblossoms.

I grew up near Washington DC so we used to always go to the cherryblossom parade but what I wanted to show you.  I have a lot of you guys who ask me forcontainers. This is one we do have online. This is a stoneware, a vintage vasebeautiful details, and when I'm choosing a vase to make my florals, I like tochoose one that are either glass mercury glass kind of not much color so that thehighlight is the flowers. Now another thing I do around the store foreverybody is I put little signs around that have design tips and this one reads"When choosing paint, always compare the paint color you likeup against a white piece of paper and this will show you the intensity of thecolor." So, I try to put little notes around to help people. When we firstopened the store this was one of the very first light fixtures I chose. Wehave two of them above the cash wrap. Again, I kind of love the rustic with theglam but I think this pendant would look cute in a lotdifferent areas of your home. So here's another wreath that we got in, I love it.

Daisies make me so happy and I know last time we did a video and I showed you awreath it sold out really quick but hopefully that won't happen with thisone but what I love about it is, it's got a twig background on it and I'll showyou a picture of what it looks like on my front door but you could also lay iton the table and put a large candle in the middle and you have a really sweetcenterpiece. This end table is one of my staples in design. In fact, I'll show youa picture where we use it in a design.

I like it because of its size. I like itbecause it's rustic and it just really flows well. What I usually do is put avery large lamp on top, add some accessories. This is another one of mylittle favorites. This is Mary Gregory Art. I have a bigger one in my home. It'sactually the white barn but this makes a cute gift, can sit on a bookshelf or siton a table just like I put it.

This is another light fixture we just got in. Hasa little bit of a French feel to it. Again, and you're gonna hear the thingwith me but it's kind of rustic here and a little bit of glam but it works.I think the chandelier would look beautiful in a bedroom or a dining roomor a breakfast nook. Now here's a new piece of art we got in last week. I loveit. The detail is stunning. Then this is probably one of my favorite clocks. I'veused it in a lot of design.

It's just neat and different and timeless. A lot ofpeople are downsizing either they're empty nesters or maybe they're youngcouples that are starting an apartment and they're ready to decorate. So I chosethese tables because of their size and because they nest inside of each other. So you could either always keep it under and then when you have company you havean extra table or you can use one to put by a chair in a bedroom andkeep the other one by the couch. So this is our dining room section. We displaythings on the table. In fact, one of the things I really like to do, evenwhen we first started to open the store, I didn't want to pack the store withstuff.

What I wanted was to create vignettes because I wanted to helppeople when they come into the store, they can see a vignette, how we placechairs, what kind of table looked good with it and they can visualize in theirown mind how that would look in their home. So again, that's why we like to setthe table as well. This is a floral I've made but I absolutely lovethese concrete candlesticks. They are super heavy but I really thinkthey make a big statement and then of course if you've watched any of myvideos you know these are my very favorite dishes. They are stoneware but what I love about them is they go from the oven, microwave, dishwasher, freezer and they don't make scratches with your fork and they don'tchip.

I love them and I usually like to do white so that throughout the season Ican pair it with different dishes and these are always my staple dishes. Here's another table that I love. I have it in my own house and one of thereasons I like, yet again, I guess I lean a little bit towards rustic but what Ilike about this table is that it's a metal top and this table is so heavy. So,if you've got kids or dogs running around, no worries about getting knockedover. Another new item that we got is this wall mount clock. Super cool,industrial-looking, would look great in an office, a bonus room, or a boy's room.I've got some more art to show you. These, brand new, love them.

I'm a bird person but I really like the details of them. The frames are a little bit distressedand it makes it look like these have been done on old paper with a linen mat.Very simple but very elegant. This is a lamp that I actually ordered for me, formy house because I thought I was gonna put it in the bedroom but I actuallyneed a table by my chair but what I love about this lamp is the patina on it, alittle bit of a brushed brass, the detail is just very pretty. Veryelegant, but the floor lamp itself is just not too big and intrusive.

The onething that I've been really excited to show you is the new artwork behind me.These are beautiful. They're watercolor sage but the size and the price is soperfect because a lot of times my clients struggle with what to putabove the couch and usually the artwork is too small or there's too many littlethings going on but these three prints would be absolutely perfect above acouch. Another coffee table centerpiece idea isthis mango and glass hurricane.

Now I set a little teeny candle ring in there andput a candle inside but you could also pour sand in there and maybe put two orthree candles. Or, you could find a large wreath like I just did with the Daisywreath and just put a wreath around it, little sand in, in a candle and you'vegot a beautiful centerpiece. Well, I really hope you enjoyed this video. A lotof the things that I showed you are available in our online store and I'mgonna put the links in the description below and you might find some otherthings you want to bring into your home. It's super easy to find our website, it'sjdsallabouthome.com. You guys stay safe and stay happy, thank you.

The Panama Canal. The greatest Engineering feat ever

It’s perhaps the most effective shortcutin the world. Slicing through the dense jungles of CentralAmerica, the Panama Canal bisects the continent, carving an 80km path that joins the Atlanticto the Pacific. For ships that pass through its intricatesystem of locks, it can chop up to 12,500 km off their journey - a time saving thatputs even Egypt’s Suez Canal to shame. When construction was finally completed in1914, it was the most expensive infrastructure project ever undertaken, and is still oneof the engineering wonders of the modern world. Yet the tale of the Panama Canal is more thanjust the tale of a whole bunch of guys getting together to decide how to get boats from portA to port B in record time. It’s also a tale of a dream.  Of a dream so big - so unimaginably vast - thatit persisted for centuries; and of the nightmares that were unleashed in pursuit of that dream. In the video today, we take a look at theepic story that is the history of the Panama Canal, a story stu...

First why then trust

Rik DelaetReviewer: Diba Szamosi Thank you. Thank you very much. What I love about events like these is that it is not just people coming together to hear ideas. It's that we all came here for the same reason. Every single one of us came here because we share something, we have similar values and similar beliefs and that's the reason we showed up. We don't know each other and yet we know something about each other.  Now this is important, you see, because the very survival of the human race depends on our ability to surround ourselves with people who believe what we believe. When we're surrounded by people who believe what we believe something remarkable happens: Trust emerges. Make no mistake of it, trust is a feeling, a distinctly human experience. Simply doing everything that you promise you're going to do does not mean people will trust you. It just means you're reliable.  And we all have friends who are total screw ups and yet we still trust them. Trust com...
